Remembrance Sunday at St John’s

On Sunday we joined the nation in remembering those who have died in war and those who continue to suffer because of conflict. During our service, we read the Roll of Honour for Bourne End, ensuring that the names of our village’s war dead are remembered. St John’s was beautifully decorated for Remembrance Sunday, including with carefully researched biographies of those on our Roll of Honour which lay with a poppy on each in the pews where they would have worshipped before they went to war.

This year, we not only remembered the humans who died, but the appropriately named Winston decked out in his finery, with his equally smartly turned out owner Laura, helped us recall the animal casualties too.

Here are Winston and Laura outside St John’s before they went to the war memorial where they laid a wreath.
